Problem: How does the weight of a toy car effect the distance the block is moved
Hypothesis: I think the more weight it has the farther the block will move because it has more force
Materials: Toy car, tape, ruler, plastic track, 50 ounce weight, and 100 ounce weight.
1. Car 23.1oc (block 1 1/4in)
2. Car with 50 once 73.3( block 4in)
3. Car with 100 once 123.6 (block 6 ¼in)
Variables IV: weight of the car
DV: the length the block has been pushed
CV: Block, track, length of track, units of measurement, ruler, weights, and scale
Procedure: 1. Gather materials
2. Setup Track
3. Put block in position
4. Weigh car
5. Run it down the track
6. Measure distance block was pushed
7. Repeat steps 2-6
8. Weigh car with 50 ounce weight
9. Repeat 2-6
10. Weigh the car with 100 ounce weight
11. Repeat 2-6
12. Record data
My conclusion is that I was right, the heaviest car made the block move the farthest. According to the data of the block that moved seemed to move up a total of 5 inches throughout the whole thing.
Proficiency number 2
Problem: Does the surface that the car rides on affect the speed it takes to ride down the ramp?
Hypothesis: I think that if the surface of the ramp is more rough the slower the car goes down.
Materials:
Wood substance
Sandpaper
Hot wheels car
Block of wood
Timer
Variables
CV: Hot wheels car, wood platform, sand paper, blocks, stop watch
Trial 1 | Trial 2 | Trial 3 | |
Wood Surface | 0.48 | 0.34 | 0.35 |
Sand paper | 0.43 | 0.46 | 0.4 |
Procedure:
- Gather materials
- Setup track
- Run car down wood surface , while timing it
- Record time it took
- Run down sand paper, while timing
- Record time it took
- Make data table
- Put data in table
- Create chart form data
Conclusion: It seems that I was incorrect because for the most part the sandpaper made the car go down faster the wood seemed to decrease which made me confused because i expected it to go faster on the wood cause it is smoother.
Solar Power Solar energy is a renewable energy that is powered by the sun. Solar energy can be formed into other things such as heat and electricity. It changes into electricity by going through a solar cell. This energy is called photovoltaic energy. People collect energy from the sun by using flat-top solar panels that absorb the sun’s light. People use the heat to warm their swimming pools, water, and homes.
The creation of solar panels basically involves cutting crystalline silicon into tiny circles less than a centimeter thick. These thin, disks are then carefully polished and treated to repair and gloss any damage from the slicing process. They are very fragile and have a paper-like consistency. To protect the solar panels after processing, a thin layer of cover glass is then combined to the photovoltaic cell. After the attachment of the protective glass, the panel is attached to a subtrate by a rare and expensive, thermally conductive cement.
Solar Power most obvious advantage is cleanness. While coal, oil, and other resources cause pollution and bad air quality. Solar power is beneficial for developed countries and developing countries, allowing clean energy and clean water for pools in rural residential areas around the world.
How is it changing the U.S? Obama recently announced that he is installing solar panels on the White House roof. People from the U.S are changing to solar power because they know it is better for the environment. The use of solar power has increased at a so high in 2009 it at record levels. This increased solar power in the U.S by 37%

1. First I would have a raised inclined plane that a golf ball will roll down(mechanical energy)
2. Then I would have it run down into a screw(mechanical energy)
3. Then I would have a series of inclined planes that are in a zigzag formation(mechanical energy)
4. Then I would have it go into a lever that would make the other end of the lever pop up and hit a row of dominoes(kinetic and potential energy)
5. Then I would have the dominoes fall onto a hammer which would be a lever and the hammer would swing down and crush a bite size tomatoes (potential and kinetic energy)
